fre:ac is now also available as a Snap for Linux systems supporting the Snappy package infrastructure.
This makes fre:ac available in the software directories of many popular Linux distributions and simplifies installation for their users. In most cases, fre:ac will show up with a simple search for freac or audio converter in these directories.

The Linux version of fre:ac is now available as a Flatpak package on Flathub.
This increases visibility of fre:ac for Linux users and simplifies the installation process. If your Linux system is already setup for Flatpak, installing fre:ac is as easy as clicking Install on its Flathub page.

fre:ac v1.1 Alpha 20181201a has been released and is now available for download!
This release adds a Notifier extension that can play a sound or display a message when a conversion is finished which was an often requested feature.
The 20181201a hotfix for the initial 20181201 release fixes broken CD ripping functionality.
Other changes in this release are:
- Improved tagging support
- Read/write ID3v2 from/to .wav files
- Read cue sheets embedded in ID3v2 tags
- Improved freaccmd command line interface
- Select options can now be specified ignoring case (e.g. VBR and vbr are now interchangeable)
- Fixes for arguments parsing on non-Windows systems
- Other improvements
- Added option to switch stereo channels in Channel Converter DSP
- Added support for accent colors on macOS Mojave
- Greatly improved UI looks and behavior on Haiku
- Respect GDK_SCALE environment variable on X11 systems
- Extension component names are now translatable
- Various bug fixes
- Fixed crash when using the channel converter to convert mono to stereo
- Fixed output file writing when using FAAC in SuperFast mode
- Fixed encoding mono MP3s with LAME
- Fixed issues writing MP4 files when <directory> pattern is used
- Improved performance when reading large MP4/M4A files

fre:ac v1.1 Alpha 20180913 has been released and is now available for download!
This is the first release to integrate the SuperFast multi-threaded encoding technology into the main development branch. This feature is still marked as experimental and may be enabled on the Resources page of the configuration dialog.
Other changes in this release are:
- added support for configuring all codecs in the command line interface
- improved UI adjustment to translated text widths
- improved HiDPI support
Upgrading to the 20180913 release is recommended for users of previous alpha or snapshot releases. All users of the stable release of fre:ac are encouraged to try this alpha instead. Please report issues on the GitHub issue tracker or by email to support@freac.org.

SuperFast Codecs Preview Release 3 |

A third preview release of the SuperFast multi-threaded codec drivers for fre:ac is now available. These components use multiple codec instances in parallel to provide faster processing on systems with multiple CPU cores.
This update adds support for the LAME MP3 encoder and fixes some minor issues with the AAC encoders.

fre:ac v1.1 Alpha 20180716 has been released and is now available for download!
This is mostly a bugfix release and comes with the following changes:
- fixed a crash when opening files with embedded PNG images
- fixed FLAC and Ogg Vorbis codecs being unavailable on macOS
- improved handling of compilations with freedb metadata
- improved album artist handling in the tag editor
